Overview

Project Overview

KPS supported the completion of roof and render works at Lloyds Folkestone, a Grade II listed building requiring a careful and conservation-led approach.

The project began following a roof leak and developed into a wider package of works, including a full roof replacement, replacement dormer windows, repairs to the front elevation and re-rendering works that respected the age and character of the building.

Challenges

The Challenge

As the building is Grade II listed, the works needed to be carried out in close alignment with conservation requirements and local planning expectations.

The project required careful consideration of materials, finishes and visual details, ensuring that repairs and replacements remained sympathetic to the age and appearance of the building. This included maintaining undulations in the roof where possible, selecting appropriate render and paint systems, and ensuring window and dormer details were in keeping with the original character.

Refurbishment

Scope of Works

The works included a combination of roofing, external repair, re-rendering and conservation-sensitive finishing.

Installation

Conservation-Led Delivery

The project required input from conservation architects and local planning officers to ensure that the completed works were appropriate for the building’s listed status.
Details such as the colour of the render, windows and mouldings were carefully considered, while previous materials that were not in keeping with the building’s age were replaced with more suitable alternatives.

Coordination

Sustainability and Material Selection

The specification included natural insulation products and breathable lime-based materials, helping to improve the performance of the building while remaining compatible with its historic fabric.

This approach supported both the conservation requirements of the project and the long-term sustainability of the building.

Result

The Result

The completed works resolved the original roof leak while delivering a wider improvement to the external fabric of the Grade II listed building.
Through careful material selection, planning coordination and heritage-sensitive delivery, the project restored and improved the building while preserving its historic character.
