Project Overview
KPS successfully tendered and procured a multi-discipline summer works programme at the prestigious International Maritime Organisation, IMO, building on the Embankment in London.
The project included glazing repairs and replacements, water tank upgrade works and an LED lighting upgrade to the main delegate conference room. The works were delivered within a fully operational building that continued to host international conferencing throughout the programme.

The Challenge
The IMO building remained live throughout the project, with conferences taking place between site teams and delegates across different parts of the world.
This created significant programme and access challenges, with working times needing to be carefully staggered around meetings taking place across different time zones. KPS worked closely with the landlord, the Department for Transport and IMO stakeholders to plan a schedule that allowed works to progress without interfering with building operations.

The works were split into three main packages, each requiring coordination around the operational use of the building.

Due to the importance of the building and the operational requirements of the site, clear communication was essential throughout the project.
KPS worked with the Department for Transport, the IMO and the wider stakeholder team, using fortnightly Zoom meetings to coordinate the programme, resolve challenges and keep all parties informed.
Result
The Result
The works were delivered to programme and within the agreed budget. This allowed the Department for Transport to procure and instruct further works as part of the package, while remaining within the planned expenditure for the project.
The successful delivery of the programme also led to further discussions around additional lighting upgrade works to the main delegates’ lounge.
