Project Overview
KPS was appointed to deliver external ramp upgrade works at the APHA Veterinary Laboratories in Shrewsbury, working with a long-standing government client.
The existing ramp system serving the post mortem laboratory area had become dilapidated and was no longer suitable for modern operational requirements. KPS was brought in to modernise the ramp, improve safety and create a more suitable access route for the specialist work carried out on site.

The ramp needed to support the movement of modern farm vehicles bringing animals to the post mortem laboratories, while also providing a safer and more compliant working environment for staff and building users.
The project required demolition, drainage improvements, structural reinstatement and the installation of protective finishes capable of withstanding specialist cleaning and disinfectant processes.

Specialist Operational Requirements
Because the ramp served a veterinary post mortem laboratory, the completed surface needed to be suitable for a specialist operational environment.
An acid resistant anti-slip resin system was installed across the whole area, helping to protect the ramp against highly caustic disinfectants that may be used as part of future site operations.

The project delivered a safer, more durable and more suitable ramp system for the laboratory environment.
The completed works gave the site team a compliant and functional workspace, better suited to modern vehicle access and the specialist operational requirements of the facility.
