Overview

Project Overview

KPS was appointed to deliver compliance and accessibility upgrade works at the Environment Agency’s Osney Mead Depot in Oxford.

The project included emergency lighting upgrades throughout the building, alongside the installation of a new accessible toilet and first aid room. The works were required following a survey that identified non-compliant areas within the existing building.

Challenges

The Challenge

The building remained live throughout the works, meaning the project needed to be delivered without disrupting Environment Agency operations.
The site also presented additional working constraints due to its proximity to live waterways. This required careful planning, safe working methods and close coordination from the site team throughout the programme.

Refurbishment

Scope of Works

KPS delivered a combined package of electrical compliance works and accessibility improvements, ensuring the building was upgraded to meet current standards.

Key Works Included

Emergency lighting system upgrades
New fittings, cabling and switchgear
Testing, commissioning and certification
Accessible toilet installation
First aid room upgrade
Doors, partitioning and lighting works
Sanitaryware installation
Internal fabric upgrades

Installation

Working Within a Live Operational Site

KPS deployed two teams to work concurrently across the emergency lighting upgrades and accessible facilities installation. This allowed progress to be maintained across both workstreams while minimising disruption to the client’s daily operations.
All systems were commissioned, tested and handed over with the relevant certification in place.

Result

The Result

The works were completed on target and within budget, leaving the building with upgraded emergency lighting systems and improved accessible facilities.

The project helped bring the site up to compliance standards while allowing Environment Agency operations to continue throughout the programme.
