KPS completed the refurbishment of multiple accommodation wings and specialist segregation areas within the Heathrow Immigration Removal Centre on behalf of Mitie and the Home Office.

The project involved the full refurbishment of secure custodial accommodation across multiple floors, alongside significant upgrades to welfare, lighting, flooring and specialist anti-ligature installations within a highly controlled operational environment.

Delivering refurbishment works within a secure custodial environment required detailed planning, careful coordination and strict control measures throughout the programme.
The project involved extensive refurbishment works across multiple occupied accommodation wings and specialist segregation areas, requiring a structured approach to logistics, sequencing, safety and operational continuity.

Scope of Works

The refurbishment works covered four general accommodation wings alongside the CSU segregation wing, comprising multiple floors and secure custodial cells.

Key Works Included

Removal of existing flooring and furniture throughout accommodation areas

Removal and replacement of custodial WC and shower installations

Full decoration works to cells and communal areas

Construction of new subfloors and drainage installations

Installation of new flooring throughout cells, landings and shower areas

White Rock hygienic wall cladding installation

Installation of anti-ligature IPS cubicles and specialist doors

Installation of new custodial furniture and wardrobes

Installation of resin WC systems

Full replacement of lighting systems with new LED custodial fittings

Anti-pick mastic sealing throughout completed areas

Specialist cleaning and handover procedures

Temporary generator installation to maintain operational power supply during works
