Overview

Project Overview

KPS tendered and procured a package of lifecycle works at Southwark Crown Court alongside ENGIE for the longstanding client, HMCTS.

The court had experienced issues relating to building cooling and hot water provision during the summer months, driven by historical maintenance issues and end-of-life equipment failure. KPS was appointed to replace key mechanical systems and improve resilience across the building.

Challenges

The Challenge

Court buildings are highly sensitive operational environments where disruption must be carefully controlled.
The works needed to address equipment failure and resilience issues while allowing court operations to continue. This required careful planning around programme, access, temporary services and integration with existing building systems.

Refurbishment

Scope of Works

The project included a range of mechanical, electrical and building services upgrade works designed to improve resilience and operational performance.

Key Works Included

Full replacement of summer hot water boilers
Calorifier replacement
Replacement of non-compliant flue system
Installation of temporary chiller for site coverage
Removal and replacement of two chilled water pumps
Removal and replacement of three condense pumps
Installation of efficient variable speed pumps
Pipework alterations
BMS integration
Electrical alterations
Normal and out-of-hours working

Coordination

Maintaining Court Operations

Works were carried out through a combination of normal and out-of-hours working to suit the operational requirements of the court.

Temporary plant was installed to provide site coverage during the works, allowing KPS to complete the upgrades while maintaining operational continuity for the building.

Result

The Result

The works were completed within the agreed client timescales and without disruption to court operations.
The completed upgrades provided improved resilience, more efficient plant and a compliant flue system, supported by a five-year manufacturer’s warranty.
