Project Overview
KPS partnered with the Boleyn School Trust for the third consecutive year to deliver summer works at Tollgate Primary School in East London.
The project focused on structural repairs to classroom flooring following a survey that identified timber rot, failed wall ties and health and safety concerns. KPS carried out the works during the school summer break, ensuring classrooms were ready for pupils to return at the start of term.
Challenges
The Challenge
The project followed temporary repair works carried out by KPS the previous year, when structural concerns were first identified within several classrooms.
Many of the timber joists had deteriorated, and ties to the external walls had rusted and failed, creating significant health and safety risks. The 2021 summer programme required a full strip-out and structural repair package within a short school holiday window.

Programme-Critical Education Delivery
As with many school projects, programme certainty was critical. The works needed to be completed within the summer break so that classrooms could be handed back ready for the start of term.
KPS planned and delivered the works within the allotted timeframe, ensuring the areas were safe, functional and fit for purpose before pupils returned.
Coordination
Preventing Future Issues
Alongside the structural repairs, KPS installed new external channel drainage to help remove water from the wall line and reduce the risk of future water ingress and timber deterioration.
This approach helped address both the immediate structural concerns and the underlying conditions that had contributed to the issue.
